Santa Barbara, California 93106-0001

On a beautiful coastal bluff, in a setting removed from urban pressures and distractions but vibrant with cultural and academic activity, the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) provides a stunning backdrop for EMC 2018.  A world-renowned educational institution, UCSB boasts a faculty of six Nobel Laureates, is one of only 62 research-intensive institutions elected to membership in the prestigious Association of American Universities, and is considered the birthplace of practical scanning microscopes, especially atomic force microscopes, which today are ubiquitous in laboratories all over the world.

Santa Barbara is less than 100 miles from hyper-metropolitan Los Angeles, but differs vastly from its huge neighbor to its south.  A mild climate, lush natural beaches, highly rated food and wine, and a wide variety of shopping makes the "American Riviera” a perfect vacation and Conference destination.
