Advanced Materials for Our Energy Future

Advanced Materials for Our Energy Future v2

The role of materials science and engineering in meeting both short- and long-term energy challenges is the focus of Advanced Materials for Our Energy Future, a new publication released as a collaborative initiative of five materials societies—the American Ceramic Society (ACerS), the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST), ASM International (ASM), The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS), and the project leader, the Materials Research Society (MRS). Print or online copies of the publication are available from any of the participating societies. (Both an online and printer-friendly version of the publication are available in the list of documents below.)

Advanced Materials for Our Energy Future has been developed as a thorough, but accessible, reference tool for policy makers, media professionals, educators, and any individual interested in learning more about the materials technologies that form the basis of energy creation, conservation, and delivery. It was designed to complement recent studies of science and technology needs related to energy by focusing on the role of materials technologies in energy efficiency, energy supply, environment protection, and job creation. The content was researched and prepared by a panel of materials science and engineering experts, each offering particular knowledge and insights into current technologies, as well as the next stage of materials development.

Advanced Materials for Our Energy Future provides a broad overview of materials research and development areas that have been identified as having the greatest potential for creating new energy sources or more effectively conserving current ones. Included in the publication are a brief summary of each technology, as well as an outline of related materials research and development priorities.
