Co-Sponsorship or Endorsement of Symposia/Meetings

The Materials Research Society recognizes that a thriving international network of professional communication is critical to ensuring rapid advancement in interdisciplinary materials research. Toward this end, MRS welcomes the opportunity to cooperate with other technical societies and organizations in co-sponsorships or endorsements of technical symposia. Such cooperation enables MRS to expand the scope of its programming, avoid duplication of technical topics, enhance the interdisciplinary environment, and aid the dissemination of materials research results. The mutual benefits include wider notification of symposium topics, scope and focus; increased awareness of each organization's activities and publications; and identification of researchers with specific interests.

Co-sponsorship or Endorsement of an MRS Symposium
Groups interested in co-sponsoring or endorsing an MRS symposium should first make an inquiry directly with the symposium organizers of that particular symposium. See symposium organizer information or contact Dick Stevens, MRS Meetings Manager (stevens@mrs.org or phone 724-779-2724)

Co-sponsorship or Endorsement of a non-MRS Event
Generally, MRS will consider co-sponsorship or endorsement of a meeting if the topic is of high interest to a significant subset of MRS members and does not conflict with MRS policies and events. MRS prefers specific topical symposia, rather than general, multi-topical meetings. Co-sponsorship is the strongest form of cooperation, in which MRS will be actively involved in the organization of the meeting, with an MRS appointee to be directly involved in the program planning. Any MRS financial involvement requires the approval of the MRS Board of Directors. Endorsement is an official recommendation to MRS members, but without active MRS involvement in the programming.

To have an event considered for co-sponsorship or endorsement, send information to Patricia Hastings, Director of Meeting Activities, Materials Research Society, 506 Keystone Drive, Warrendale, PA 15086, phone (724)779-2721, fax (724) 779-8313, email hastings@mrs.org.  The following information is needed to expedite an MRS decision:

  1. Specification of whether co-sponsorship or endorsement is sought.
  2. Specific information on the event (name, date, location, primary sponsor and any known co-sponsors, call for papers, detailed description of the technical scope and focus, or preliminary program).
  3. Prior approval of any IUMRS participating society for meetings held in their region. IUMRS information and contacts may be found at http://www.iumrs.org/
  4. Any additional pertinent information.
