MRS, along with a range of other professional and volunteer organizations, is developing collaborative materials-related activities in Africa. This half-day workshop discussed current and planned projects, introduced people and teams to each other and helped facilitate the growth of activities. These activities involve educational exchanges, summer/winter schools, international meetings/workshops, joint development projects, etc. Attendees learned about the proposed programs, met African materials science leaders, including some from the Africa Materials Research Society, and networked with colleagues involved in launching projects on the continent. Representatives from US and other funding agencies also participated.
