A special announcement in this issue is that the MRS Spring Meeting will be relocating to Phoenix, Arizona, beginning in 2016.     MRS and the Kavli Foundation proudly introduce the Kavli Early Career Lectureship in Nanoscience; a free, one-day science writing workshop will be held December 1 in parallel with our 2013 MRS Fall Meeting; and graduate student award applications will be accepted through August 15. MRS Bulletin's latest issue is entitled "Ionic liquids for energy applications" and featured articles include "The nanostructure of the Si–Al eutectic and its use in lithium batteries" (MRS Communications).

    The preliminary results of the MRS-TMS "Big Data" survey are in; thanks to all who participated! Also, the 2012 Thomson Reuters impact factors have been announced: our MRS Communications received its inaugural impact factor and the numbers for both JMR and MRS Bulletin increased. Further, the Science as Art Notecards competition is over and you can view the winners. Featured articles include "Synthesis, lattice structure, and band gap of ZnSnN2" (MRS Communications); "From DNA to genetically evolved technology" (MRS Bulletin); and "Interpreting the ductility of nanocrystalline metals" (Journal of Materials Research).

    Reminders include: Preregistration for the 2013 MRS Spring Meeting is now open; MRS awards nominations are due April 1; MRS OnDemand sessions are available from the 2012 MRS Fall Meeting; and NanoDays takes place nationally March 30-April 7.  Also, L'Oreal USA launches their "For Girls in Science" website. MRS Bulletin's latest issue is entitled: "Nitrogen-vacancy centers: Physics and applications" and featured articles include: "An ancient method-inspired route for fast fabrication of 'PbS bird feathers'" (MRS Communications) and several Journal of Materials Research papers.

    We invite MRS members to upload current contact information, as well as a photo, to their MRS profile, and to check out the 2013 MRS Spring Meeting Career Center.  Also, The Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E) issued an open call for funding and Ainissa Ramirez of Yale University released a new Science Xplained video. Featured articles include: "Hydrothermal growth of ZnO nanorods on electrospun polyamide nanofibers" (MRS Communications); "Nanomaterials’ variety, complexity hard to fathom" (MRS Bulletin); and "Review: Micro- and nanostructured surface engineering for biomedical applications" (Journal of Materials Research).

    Our Journal of Materials Research will publish a special focus issue on "Advances in the Synthesis, Characterization and Properties of Bulk Porous Materials" in September 2013. Also, we are announcing MRS OnDemand, first introduced at our 2012 MRS Fall Meeting, featuring Meeting highlights and talks; and MRS TV, featuring interviews of MRS Meeting attendees and honorees. Highlighted articles include: "Recent developments in ductile bulk metallic glass composites" (MRS Communications); "The science of silks" (MRS Bulletin); and Argon annealing procedure for producing an atomically terraced 4H–SiC (0001) substrate and subsequent graphene growth" (Journal of Materials Research).
