    Steven G. Louie to Receive 2015 Materials Theory Award

    The Materials Research Society has named Steven G. Louie, University of California, Berkeley, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, as the 2015 recipient of the Materials Theory Award “for his seminal contributions to the development of ab initio methods for, and the elucidation of, many-electron effects in electronic excitations and optical properties of solids and nanostructures.” The Materials Theory Award, endowed by Toh-Ming Lu and Gwo-Ching Wang, “recognizes exceptional advances made by materials theory to the fundamental understanding of the structure and behavior of materials.

    Sir Richard H. Friend to Receive the Materials Research Society's Highest Honor

    The 2015 Von Hippel Award, the Materials Research Society’s (MRS) highest honor, will be presented to Sir Richard H. Friend, Optoelectronics Group, Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge. Friend is being recognized “for pioneering research on highly original materials phenomena and device concepts, enabled by polymeric semiconducting materials, and imprinting an indelible influence on contemporary materials science and the new field of plastic electronics.”

    Materials Research Society President-Elect, Kristi S. Anseth, Named 2015 Bayer Distinguished Lecturer at Pitt

    Materials Research Society (MRS) Vice President/President-Elect, Kristi S. Anseth, has been named recipient of the 2015 Bayer Distinguished Lectureship by the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh's Swanson School of Engineering. Anseth is the Tisone Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering, associate professor of surgery, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator at the University of Colorado-Boulder Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. She will serve as MRS President in 2016.

    The Materials Research Society’s (MRS) Outstanding Young Investigator Award recognizes outstanding, interdisciplinary scientific work in materials research by a young scientist or engineer who shows exceptional promise as a developing leader in the materials area. This year, MRS has named two award recipients—Karena W. Chapman, Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), and Ali Javey, University of California, Berkeley (UC-Berkeley). Chapman and Javey will be presented with their awards on April 8, 2015, during the Award Ceremony of the 2015 MRS Spring Meeting in San Francisco.
