    MRS Communications Unveils Unique New Prospect for Materials Research

    MRS Communications, a ground-breaking new journal for the global materials research community, has published its first Prospectives Article—Biomaterials-based strategies for the engineering of mechanically active soft tissues. Written by Zhixiang Tong and Xinqiao Jia, both of the University of Delaware’s Biotechnology Institute, the article examines the potential for breakthroughs in the creation of artificial tissues that are mechanically robust and biologically functional.  This forward-looking article is the first offering of a unique feature of MRS Communications, its Prospectives Articles.     MRS and TMS Announce 2012-2013 Congressional Science and Engineering Fellow

    The Materials Research Society (MRS) and The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) have selected Andrew Steigerwald, Vanderbilt University, as the 2012-2013 MRS/TMS Congressional Science and Engineering Fellow. Steigerwald will serve a one-year term working as a special legislative assistant on the staff of a member of Congress or congressional committee.

    MRS Honors 2012 Spring Meeting Graduate Student Award Winners

    The Materials Research Society (MRS) announced the winners of the Graduate Student Awards on Wednesday, April 11, during the 2012 MRS Spring Meeting in San Francisco. Twenty-three graduate students were recognized for their academic achievements and current materials research, which exhibit a high level of excellence and distinction. Of the 105 applications processed this year, the 23 finalists were chosen on the merits of exceptional abilities and promise for significant future achievement in materials research. Gold or Silver Awards were decided based on oral presentations given on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 10.
