Marriott Marquis, Golden Gate Level, BThe 2012 Innovation in Materials Characterization (IMC) Award winner is Stephen J. Pennycook, Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Dr. Pennycook's talk presentation is titled Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy—Seeing the Atoms More Clearly. The IMC award honors an outstanding advance in materials characterization that notably increases knowledge of the structure, composition, in situ behavior under outside stimulus, electronic behavior, or other characterization feature, of materials.
Tuesday, April 106:00 pm – 6:45 pm
Marriott Marquis, Golden Gate Level, BMarkus J. Buehler, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will receive the 2012 MRS OYI Award “for highly innovative and creative work in computational modeling of biological, bio-inspired, and synthetic materials, revealing how weakness is turned into strength through hierarchical material design.” Dr. Buehler's talk presentation is titled "From Atoms to Structures—Turning Weakness into Strength." *A 2012 MRS SPRING MEETING VIRTUAL EVENT*
Wednesday, April 116:30 pm
Marriott Marquis, Yerba Buena Level, Salon 7Kristi S. Anseth of the University of Colorado–Boulder will receive the inaugural Mid-Career Researcher Award during the Plenary/Awards Session for her “exceptional achievement at the interface of materials and biology enabling new, functional biomaterials that answer fundamental questions in biology and yield advances in regenerative medicine, stem-cell differentiation, and cancer treatment.” There will be no talk session associated with this award -- the time listed here is for the award presentation. *A 2012 MRS SPRING MEETING VIRTUAL EVENT*
