    Symposium X: Frontiers of Materials Research will feature lunchtime lectures aimed at a broad audience to provide meeting attendees with an overview of leading-edge topics.

  • "Science as Art" Competition -- $400 Prizes
    As a special feature of the 2008 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston, we are conducting the sixth installment of the popular "Science as Art" competition. The competition is open to all registered meeting attendees. Prizes of up to $400 will be awarded. Entries are due by October 15, 2008.
  • Public Outreach Events
    Visit the Public Outreach Center (Hynes Registration Corridor, Level 2) on Monday - Thursday to learn what roles MRS is playing in the education outreach communities and find out how you can participate.
  • Focus Session: Carbon Nanotube Purity Standards
    Sunday, November 30
    Time: 7:50 a.m.
    Room 208, Hynes Convention Center
    This one-day focus session will be comprised of panel discussions, invited speakers, and contributed talks.
  • MRS Medal
    Two MRS Medals will be awarded at the 2008 MRS Fall Meeting. The recipients--James Scott of Cambridge University, and Darrell G. Schlom of Cornell University--will give their talks during the Thursday Symposium X sessions.
  • Von Hippel Award
    This year's Von Hippel Award will be presented to Herbert Gleiter, Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe.

  • Plenary Session
    The 2008 MRS Fall Meeting Plenary Session featured Susan Solomon from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Her talk presentation was titled "A World of Change -- Climate Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow."
  • Fred Kavli Distinguished Lectureship in Nanoscience

  • Impediments to a Renaissance of Nuclear Power in the US: Discussion of Materials Science Solutions
    The purpose of the nuclear power forum was to catalyze interest in materials research and development of materials technologies that might mitigate some of the impediments to a renaissance of nuclear power in the U.S.
  • Science Policy Session
    Tuesday, December 2

    Ronald Kelley, with 26 years of experience in interfacing universities, corporations, and professional societies (including MRS) with the federal government, will introduce science policy with a focus on MRS, and give background on how science advises and shapes public policy.
