2009 MRS Elections

2009 MRS Elections Image

October, 2009

Dear MRS Member:

The MRS Board of Directors is the highest governing body of the Materials Research Society, responsible for establishing policy, monitoring progress of the Society toward its long-term goals, and setting the strategic directions for the major activities of the Society, including its meetings, publications, interactions with government agencies, and cooperative efforts with other professional societies throughout the world.

The Board is composed of four elected Officers (President, Immediate Past President, Vice President, and Secretary), and up to 18 Board Members, 15 of whom are elected by the membership. A fifth officer (Treasurer) is appointed yearly from the Board. This year, we will elect a Vice President (who will serve as President in 2011) and five Directors, who will serve three-year terms. The elected candidates will serve terms beginning January 1, 2010.

The successful operation of the society requires a range of skill sets on the Board, including people from different regions, different sectors (industry, academe, and government), and different backgrounds. Experience in leadership positions is particularly valuable. The Nominating Committee has proposed candidates who have made exceptional contributions both to MRS and to other organizations. Please keep this is mind when making your selections.

The online ballot to vote for a Vice President and Directors of the Materials Research Society for 2010 will be available at https://www.directvote.net/mrs/, beginning October 14. Complete voting instructions will be provided there, and biographical information and candidate statements are provided by clicking the View Bio/Candidate's Statement icon. The same information is available as a printer-friendly document below. If you wish to receive a paper ballot, contact Kathy D'Biagio at dbiagio@mrs.org, or 724-779-3004 x 102.

I encourage each member to help to shape the future of the Materials Research Society by taking advantage of this convenient election process. Your ballot (online or paper) must be received by 12:00 noon Eastern Standard Time, November 4, 2009, in order to be counted.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Shefford P. Baker
MRS President
