International Materials Research Opportunities

MRS is committed to promoting international interdisciplinary collaboration in materials research. As part of that commitment, we have compiled the following International Research Opportunities. • Materials World Network: Cooperative Activity in Materials Research between US Investigators and their Counterparts Abroad (MWN)
  This solicitation describes an activity to foster opportunities for collaborations between US investigators and their colleagues abroad. It includes joint activities between NSF and funding organizations in Europe, Africa, Asia and other regions.
• Funding Guide Database - Canada
  Funding Guide for International Science and Technology Cooperation. A resource for Canadian researchers and scientists.
• The Researcher's Mobility Portal - Europe
  The purpose of this Portal is to create a more favourable environment for career development and job vacancies for researchers in Europe by providing necessary structured information.
• Collaborative Research Programs and Opportunities / Americas - Pan-American Advanced Studies Institutes Program (PASI)
  A jointly supported initiative between the Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Pan American Advanced Studies Institutes are short courses of two to four weeks duration, involving lectures, demonstrations, research seminars and discussion at the advanced graduate and post-doctoral level.
• Collaborative Research Programs and Opportunities / Americas - Inter-American Materials Collaboration
  The goal is to strengthen Inter-American scientific collaboration in materials research through exchange of scientific information among members of the CIAM (Inter-American Materials Collaboration) program, and to catalyze the formation of new Inter-American collaborations.
• Collaborative Research Programs and Opportunities / Americas - International Materials Institutes (IMI) - Enhancing International Collaborations in Materials Research
  These Institutes advance fundamental materials research by coordinating international research and education projects involving condensed matter and materials physics; solid state and materials chemistry; and the design, synthesis, characterization, and processing of materials to meet global and regional needs.
• Collaborative Research Programs and Opportunities / Americas - International Research Fellowship Program (IRFP)
  The objective of the IRFP is to introduce scientists and engineers in the early stages of their careers to research opportunities abroad, thereby furthering NSF's goal of creating a diverse, competitive, and globally-engaged U.S. workforce of scientists, engineers, technologists and well-prepared citizens.
• Collaborative Research Programs and Opportunities / Americas - International Opportunities for Scientists and Engineers (INT)
  Promoting new partnerships between U.S. investigators and their colleagues in other countries, or new cooperative projects between established collaborators. Such activities may be in any field of science and engineering research and education supported by NSF.
• Collaborative Research Programs and Opportunities / European Union - European Science Agency
  The European Science Foundation promotes high quality science at a European level. It acts as a catalyst for the development of science by bringing together leading scientists and funding agencies to debate, plan and implement pan-European initiatives
• Collaborative Research Programs and Opportunities / European Union - Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS)
  Assists and encourages the formation of international research consortia to address industrial manufacturing and organisational challenges in the 21st century.
• Collaborative Research Programs and Opportunities / France - Programmes d'actions intégrées (PAI)
  Research projects jointly established by two research groups (one from France and the other from a different country) that after review will benefit from the financial support offered by the two countries. Integrated Action Programs (IAP) are intended to public or private labs (universities, research centers and institutes, schools of engineering).
• Collaborative Research Programs and Opportunities / Germany - GERMAN SCHOLARS ORGANIZATION (GSO)
  The German Scholars Organization (GSO) is a nonprofit organization for German Scholars of all disciplines working outside of Germany. The objective of the GSO is to provide a platform for contacts among the scholars, to disseminate information concerning relevant developments in Germany, to enable targeted access to the scholars for companies and research organizations interested in offering positions to them, and vice versa, for scholars to those institution.
• Collaborative Research Programs and Opportunities / Russia - U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation
  The U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation (CRDF) is a nonprofit organization that promotes international scientific and technical collaboration.
• Collaborative Research Programs and Opportunities / Japan - Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)
  The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), or Gakushin for short, is a quasi-governmental organization, established by a national law for the purpose of contributing to the advancement of science. Since its establishment, JSPS has made continuous effort to develop and implement a far-reaching array of domestic and international scientific programs.
• Collaborative Research Programs and Opportunities / Korea - Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF)
  KOSEF provides grants for bilateral joint research projects, when Korean scientists wish to conduct international cooperative research with foreign scientists, through mutual discussion with the counterpart organizations.

  A*STAR's mission is to foster world-class scientific research and nurturing world-class scientific talent for a vibrant Knowledge-Based Singapore.

  Opportunities for research collaborations between South Africa and various countries, including the USA, European countries and India. Deadlines for proposal submissions depend on the partner country
• Postdoctoral and Student Opportunities / European Union - Marie Curie Fellowships
  Training, mobility and career development opportunities covered under the EU's Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) for R&D. These opportunities are open to researchers of all ages and levels of experience regardless of nationality.
• Postdoctoral and Student Opportunities / France - For American students
  If you are currently working towards your PhD, or if you have completed it in the last three years, you may qualify for a fellowship from the French Government to conduct research in France. Some of the fellowships are co-sponsored by French companies.
