- Proceedings Submission Deadline for 2009 MRS Fall Meeting Extended
MRS now allows submission of manuscripts by all authors, whether or not their symposium organizers wish to publish proceedings. The deadline to submit a proceedings paper has been extended to December 16, 2009.

- MRS Announces 2009 Von Hippel, Turnbull Lecturer and MRS Medal Winners
At the 2009 MRS Fall Meeting, the Von Hippel Award will be presented to Tobin Marks of Northwestern University, the Turnbull Lecturer Award will be presented to Edward J. Kramer of University of California, Santa Barbara, and the MRS Medal will be awarded to Gerbrand Ceder of MIT.

- Materials Research Society Names Gary L. Messing as New JMR Editor-in-Chief
The Materials Research Society (MRS) has named Gary L. Messing of The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Materials Research (JMR). Messing succeeds Gordon E. Pike, Sandia National Laboratories, who is retiring after eight years of distinguished service as JMR editor-in-chief.
