The 2009 Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) User Group Meeting was held September 30-October 1, 2009 in Santa Fe, NM. Current and prospective users of this DOE/NNSA/BES facility were encouraged to attend and participate in the science sessions and facility discussions.

The two-day meeting featured a technical program of interest to researchers in materials science, condensed matter physics, neutron and nuclear science, radiation effects, accelerator physics and applications, and related areas. The agenda included plenary talks, user science talks and posters, parallel sessions on focus topics, the LANSCE User Group business meeting, collaboration meetings, and interactive discussions on the user facility capabilities and future plans.

An optional tour of the LANSCE facility was planned for Friday morning, October 2nd.  We also invite you to find out more about a related event -- the Center for Integrated Technologies (CINT) is held a User Conference at the Hilton Hotel in Santa Fe, September 29-30, 2009.

Local Information

Averaging over 300 days of sunshine a year, Santa Fe is an excellent destination for travel during the winter, spring, summer or fall. At 7,000 feet above sea level, the city offers the best of many worlds…snow-covered peaks, autumn leaves, mountain streams, desert trails and the bluest of blue skies. Because of the high altitude, it’s important to drink large quantities of water for maintaining hydration, all year round.

In the spring and summer, Santa Fe is ideal for hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, kayaking and rafting. Wintertime draws downhill and cross-country skiers and snowboarders from around the world. And in autumn, when the aspens change, the scenery is breathtaking as the Sangre de Cristo Mountains turn from green to yellow in a matter of weeks. Average temperatures for September and October are:

September: 74/49
October: 63/38
