MRS Sections

MRS Sections provide a convenient forum for the discussion of materials issues of particular interest to scientists and engineers in that local community. MRS can support Section activities by:

  • providing limited financial assistance for local meetings
  • providing a Turnbull Lecturer for presentation of an invited talk at no expense to the host Section (subject to the Turnbull Lecturer's availability)
  • providing literature about MRS membership, activities and publications
  • assisting in promotion of Section events by providing mailing or e-mail lists, and listings in the MRS Bulletin or on the MRS Web site

Section activities might include:

  • hosting local technical meetings (separately, or jointly with other local societies' Sections and/or Chapters) to promote interest in materials research on the part of the regional community, students, business, the general public and the media
  • helping local schools, government entities, clubs and other societies become aware of materials research and how it impacts them
  • fostering constructive intersociety relations and collaborations at the grass-roots level.

If there is a local Section near you, we urge you to join it. If there isn’t a Section in your area, then maybe you’re the person to get one started. For information and guidelines on establishing and maintaining a Section, see Section X of the MRS Bylaws.
