Graduate students who are interested in assisting in the symposium sessions during the Materials Research Society’s 2017 MRS Spring Meeting are encouraged to apply for a Symposium Assistant position. Symposium Assistants deliver essential meeting materials to the technical session rooms, monitor audiovisual equipment and room lighting, track and record attendance and perform other tasks requested by the session chairs. By assisting in a minimum of four half-day sessions, students will earn a complimentary student registration and a stipend to help defray expenses. Positions are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications are no longer being accepted. You may stop at the Symposium Assistant Check In (Phoenix Convention Center, North, 100 Level, Foyer) one-half hour prior to the beginning of the morning or afternoon symposium sessions, Monday through Friday, to ask if any positions have become available due to late cancellations or no-shows.
MRS staff will conduct a PowerPoint training presentation for Symposium Assistants. Any applicant who has received Symposium Assistant assignments should attend this training to receive instructions regarding their responsibilities as a Symposium Assistant. Assistants will receive a folder containing their time sheet, Symposium Assistant ribbon and other useful information. Assistants will earn $10 for attending the full session.
If you are unable to attend the training session, you should report to the Symposium Assistant Check-In, Phoenix Convention Center, North, 100 Level, Foyer, 45 minutes prior to the beginning of the first session to which you are assigned. You will receive brief instructions, along with your time sheet and Symposium Assistant ribbon.
