The following opportunities offer students and post-docs unique experiences at the 2018 MRS Fall Meeting, plus:
- Reimbursement of the student preregistration fee
- FREE one-year MRS student membership commencing January 1, 2019
- A stipend
Materials Voice Booth—Call for Student Volunteers
Several student volunteers are needed to staff the Materials Voice booth.
Energetic student volunteers will encourage passers-by to send an email from the booth to their US Congressional representatives regarding matters of importance to the scientific community.
Booth hours are 12:00 pm–4:00 pm Sunday and 8:00 am–4:00 pm, Monday–Thursday. Each volunteer will work a minimum of 16 hours throughout the week. Additional shifts may be available. The stipend is $10/hour. If volunteers work less than 16 hours, they will not qualify for the preregistration reimbursement or free membership; however, they will receive the stipend for hours worked. Respond early to receive your preferred shifts.
Interested students should email Donna Gillespie at email@example.com no later than October 16. Each placement will be assigned via email. Specific work hours will be assigned, and each volunteer will be required to sign a short work agreement outlining the work assignment and compensation.
MRS Meeting Scene—Call for Reporters and Bloggers
Graduate students and post-docs who are interested in contributing to the Meeting Scene newsletter and the Meeting Blog for the full week of the 2018 MRS Fall Meeting are encouraged to apply.
Reporters will be required to attend talks in a variety of symposia and write brief summaries (100-250 words) of four talks each day; bloggers will be required to post at least five items per day and also tweet about their experiences at the meeting. The stipend is $50 for the week.
To apply, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org stating your qualifications and your reasons for wanting to report or blog for us. We need only four reporters and four bloggers, so we will not be able to accept everyone who applies. Apply now! We look forward to hearing from you!
Symposium Assistant Positions
Graduate students who are interested in assisting in the symposium sessions during the 2018 MRS Fall Meeting are encouraged to apply for a symposium assistant position. Symposium assistants deliver essential meeting materials to the technical session rooms, monitor audio-visual equipment and room lighting, track and record attendance and perform other tasks requested by the session chairs.
By assisting in a minimum of four half-day sessions, students will earn a complimentary student registration, a one-year MRS student membership commencing January 1, 2019, and a stipend to help defray expenses. Positions are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications are no longer being accepted.
