SCIENCE AS ART
Smashing plates
Fionán Davitt, University College Cork, Ireland
This scanning electron microscope image shows a series of SnSe2 microplates formed from a nanowire network substructure yielding a broken plate-like form. These structures were grown through a chemical vapor deposition method. The SnSe2 is a semiconducting, metal-dichalcogenide material with a layered van der Waals structure.
A Finalist from the Science as Art competition at the 2018 MRS Fall Meeting.
