Von Hippel Award
The Materials Research Society’s highest honor, the Von Hippel Award, is conferred annually to an individual in recognition of the recipient’s outstanding contribution to interdisciplinary research on materials.
Jerry D. Tersoff
IBM T.J. Watson Research Center
“for advancing the understanding of low-dimensional and nanoscale electronic materials, surfaces and interfaces, through elegant theoretical models that highlight the essential physics controlling growth, structure and electronic properties”
Tersoff's talk, Simple Models for Complex Behavior in Nanowire Growth, will immediately follow the Awards program.

David Turnbull Lectureship
The David Turnbull Lectureship Award recognizes the career contribution of a scientist to fundamental understanding of the science of materials through experimental and/or theoretical research, as exemplified by David Turnbull.
Paula T. Hammond

“for her contributions to the science, engineering and applications of self-assembled macromolecular systems”

MRS Medal Award
The MRS Medal is awarded for a specific outstanding recent discovery or advancement that has a major impact on the progress of a materials-related field. MRS acknowledges Toh-Ming Lu and Gwo-Ching Wang for their generous contributions to support this award.

Materials Theory Award
The Materials Theory Award recognizes exceptional advances made by materials theory to the fundamental understanding of the structure and behavior of materials. MRS acknowledges Toh-Ming Lu and Gwo-Ching Wang for their generous contributions to support this award.

MRS Nelson “Buck” Robinson Science and Technology Award for Renewable Energy
The MRS Nelson "Buck" Robinson Science and Technology Award for Renewable Energy recognizes an early-career professional for the development of novel sustainable solutions for the realization of renewable sources of energy.
MRS acknowledges the generosity of Sophie Robinson for endowing this award in memory of her father, Nelson "Buck" Robinson.

Graduate Student Gold and Silver and Arthur Nowick Graduate Student Award
The MRS Graduate Student Awards are intended to honor and encourage graduate students whose academic achievements and current materials research display a high level of excellence and distinction. Finalists will present their talks Tuesday at 12:00 pm in the Sheraton, 3rd Floor, Beacon A, B and G. All Meeting attendees, especially students, are encouraged to attend the sessions.
