2020 MRS Spring Meeting

Call for Papers

In March of this year, MRS leadership made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 MRS Spring Meeting in Phoenix for the safety and well-being our members, attendees, staff and the materials community, and to reschedule as much of the program as possible into a special 2020 Joint MRS Spring and Fall Meeting.

This one-time-only joint event will take place in Boston, from Saturday, November 28 through Friday, December 4—expanding by one day to provide programming capacity. The program flow for each symposium is under development and will be announced in early July.

Symposium EL10—Electroactive Ceramics for Information Technologies and Flexible Electronics

Electroactive ceramics including a variety of dielectric, ferroelectric, piezoelectric, ferromagnetic and multiferroic ceramics are promising for a wide range of applications in advanced electronics. To meet ever-increasing demands of information technologies and flexible electronics, electroactive ceramics are required to possess a unique combination of the characteristics such as high performance, multifunctionality, and processability. For example, new ceramic processing methods such as room temperature and ultra-low temperature sintering are being developed, enabling unprecedented applications of electroactive ceramics in sensors, actuators, energy harvesting and storage, packaging and interconnects, and microsystems, etc..

This symposium will bring together an international group of researchers from academics and industries to share their vision and insights for wide aspects of electroactive ceramics, such as field-responding physical mechanisms, new design paradigms for advanced structures, novel synthesis strategies, advanced ceramic processing techniques, characterization techniques, and emerging applications. We expect that this symposium could boost the research and development of electroactive ceramics and promote their applications in information technologies and flexible electronics.

Topics will include:

  • Novel microwave and millimeter-wave dielectric materials
  • Ultra-low temperature cofired ceramics and their applications
  • Cold sintering and room temperature sintering of ceramics
  • Dielectric materials for 5G communication
  • Microwave absorber and shielding materials
  • Ceramics/inks/paste and other materials for flexible electronics
  • Direct writing/printing process for flexible electronic devices
  • Multilayered solid ionic capacitors/batteries for wearable electronics
  • Components/devices/microsystems based on electroactive ceramics
  • Ferro/piezoelectric/multiferroic materials and new phenomenon
  • Electroactive ceramics materials and devices design/modeling/simulation
