MRS Membership is for Everyone!

To better serve students and professionals from all technical and economic sectors of the worldwide materials community, individuals working or studying in developing countries are eligible for discounted electronic membership.

Funded by the Materials Research Society Foundation, these memberships enable materials scientists to connect with colleagues from around the world, furthering the MRS vision of “building a dynamic, interactive, global community of materials researchers.” Ultimately, the goal is to advance technical excellence by providing a framework in which the materials disciplines can convene, collaborate, integrate and advocate.

Eligible countries are based on those defined as Low-Income or Lower-Middle-Income Economies by the World Bank. Please visit the World Bank website to view the current list of qualifying Low-Income and Lower-Middle-Income countries.

    Student Membership

    • Only students enrolled in universities in countries defined as Lower-Income or Lower-Middle-Income Economies by the World Bank are eligible for the FREE electronic memberships. Please visit the World Bank website to view the current list of qualifying  Low-Income and Lower-Middle-Income countries.
        
    • To apply, students must print out the MRS Member Application, complete all required information (indicate Zero Dollars as the student membership fee) and return to MRS:
      • by mail to Materials Research Society, 506 Keystone Drive, Warrendale, PA, 15086, USA
      • by email to [email protected] or
      • by fax to 724-779-4732

        Special Note—Application for these special memberships cannot be made via the online membership process.
    • A copy of the student's valid University ID must be included with the membership application (no exemptions to this stipulation). 
        
    • All member benefits for these students will be electronic only. Once membership is approved, the student will receive an email with instructions on how to access the member benefits.
        
    • Membership in this special program is not automatically granted or renewed each year. It must be requested on an annual basis. The maximum free student e-membership period is five years.

     

      Professional Membership

      • Only professionals living and working in countries defined as Lower-Income or Lower-Middle-Income Economies by the World Bank are eligible for discounted electronic membership. Please visit the World Bank website to view the current list of qualifying Low-Income and Lower-Middle-Income countries.
         
      • To apply, researchers must print out this Membership Application, complete all required information, indicate $66.00 (Lower-Middle-Income) or $32.00 (Low-Income) rate, and return to MRS:
        • by mail to Materials Research Society, 506 Keystone Drive, Warrendale, PA, 15086, USA 
        • by email to [email protected] or
        • by fax to 724-779-4732
