Mid-Career Researcher Award

The Mid-Career Researcher Award recognizes exceptional achievements in materials research made by mid-career professionals. Exceptions may be made for an interruption in career progression due to family or military service. The award recipient must also demonstrate notable leadership in the materials area.


The 2024 MRS Spring Meeting Award deadline to submit a nomination was August 1.

The Award

The annual award consists of a $5,000 cash prize, a presentation trophy and a certificate. Meeting registration fee, transportation and hotel expenses to attend the MRS Spring Meeting at which the award is presented will be reimbursed.

Nomination Information

Nominations for the Mid-Career Researcher Award will be accepted June 1 through August 1. Rules and eligibility, nomination package requirements and more are available here.

In this MRS TV interview from the 2022 MRS Spring Meeting, Molly Stevens, the 2022 MRS Mid-Career Research Award winner discusses her talk, titled "Designing Biomaterials to Repair the Body and Detect Diseases Earlier." The MRS Mid-Career Research Award recognizes exceptional achievements in materials science by my mid-career professionals and is intended to honor individuals between the ages of 40 - 52. Dr. Stevens was awarded this honor for innovative biosensing nanomaterials technologies for point-of-care disease diagnostics.
