WARRENDALE, PA—The Materials Research Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Manish Chhowalla, University of Cambridge, as the next Editor-in-Chief of MRS Energy & Sustainability. He will succeed Editor-in-Chief Y. Shirley Meng, who will step down after five years as Editor-in-Chief in May 2024.
Professor Chhowalla, MRS Fellow and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, is the Goldsmiths’ Professor of Materials Science at the University of Cambridge. He is also the Director of the Cambridge University’s Sir Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials. He also holds the Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies on the topic of atomically thin semiconductors for ultra-low power electronics. Chhowalla’s research has spanned an extraordinary range of materials and devices, from two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDs) for electrochemical applications and electronic devices to graphene oxide, vertically aligned carbon nanotubes, and diamond like carbons. The results have started new fields and are based on understanding properties of phase engineered materials to improve device performance.
