This workshop explores the interface of AI and materials science, and specifically the question of generating new scientific data and discoveries. Areas of interest include the use of AI-based computational methods to model materials, to drive experimentation, to mine and understand data, and accelerate scientific discovery.
We will cover questions about the current state and challenges in fundamental tools and methods, such as physics-aware AI, world models, multimodal reasoning, and scaling. We will discuss if and how the interface of computer science, physics, chemistry and biology, and methods traditionally rooted in materials science will accelerate advancements in AI.
Technical approaches cover a range of topics, including geometric deep learning (e.g. GNNs, graph reasoning), multimodal language models, reasoning methods, multi-agent models, with a focus on physics-aware modeling approaches. Other areas of interest include societal and economic dimensions of the role of AI in materials industries, open access to code, data and data sharing, training strategies, and community-driven frameworks to accelerate progress for broad use across scientific disciplines.
