Meeting Chairs:
Husam N. Alshareef, Amit Goyal, Gerardo Morell, José A. Varela, In Kyeong Yoo
The Call for Papers for this meeting will be posted in February 2014, and abstract submission will begin in May 2014.
NOTE: The following message is being sent by MRS Headquarters on behalf of the Meeting Chairs for the 2014 MRS Fall Meeting. Please reply by May 1 via a separate email addressed directly to the 2014 Fall Meeting Chairs (email addresses below).
As
part of the early stages of planning the technical program for the 2014
MRS Fall Meeting, we are interested in your input on future symposium
topics. Our goal is to plan a meeting that includes both new, rapidly
developing areas in materials science as well as topics within the
traditional core scope of the Fall Meeting.
Please send your
suggestions for symposium topics, along with the names and affiliations
of possible symposium organizers, via email to the 2014 MRS Fall Meeting
Chairs. (For your convenience, email addresses for each individual
chairs are listed below. To submit a proposal, please send an email to the entire group of meeting chairs.)
Please include any comments you
think are relevant regarding the topic’s importance to the materials
science community and its history, if any, at previous MRS events.
Finally, please include a short justification of why you and your
proposed co-organizers are qualified to organize the proposed symposium.
Additional details about preparing a proposal can be found at http://www.mrs.org/organize-symposium.
To
expedite the review and approval process, symposium proposals should be
submitted in the form of a preliminary Call for Papers (CFP). A sample CFP is available for review, as is a simple Word template to help you organize your submission. Additional samples can be viewed on the MRS meetings page.
If you have co-organized an earlier MRS symposium about your proposed topic, please note that the MRS Program Development Subcommittee
(PDSC) requires a turnover of at least two co-organizers from the most
recent symposium. Previous organizers who step aside may still serve
the program in the important role of invited speaker. Also, PDSC
considers a diversified group of four co-organizers to be the optimal
size. By diversity we refer primarily to region (international),
emphasis (fundamental vs applied research), institution and gender.
Inclusion of translational research and industrial involvement is highly
encouraged. If you are recommending more than four co-organizers,
please include a brief explanation of why you consider the larger number
important to the success of your proposed symposium.
Your input
is extremely valuable in helping assure both the breadth and topicality
of the MRS meeting. We would appreciate having your ideas by May 1, although we will also do our best to consider any suggestions we receive later in the meeting planning process.
Thank you.
