Childcare Grants

The Materials Research Society has a limited number of childcare grants available for those attending the 2024 MRS Spring Meeting & Exhibit. Grants of up to $300 will be given to selected registered meeting attendees who are bringing young children or who incur extra expenses in leaving them at home (i.e., added hours of daycare or babysitting services).

Download the Application

Deadline: April 5, 2024

In the event that the number of requests exceeds the available funding, preference will be given to applicants in the early stages of their careers.

Application Guidelines

The deadline to submit an application (via email to [email protected]) is on April 5, 2024. To submit you must be a registered meeting attendee on the day you submit.

Recipients will be notified upon approval of their application, on or before April 12, 2024. After the meeting, approved applicants must send a list of expenses and scans of receipts showing the extra expenses incurred, no later than April 30, 2024.  Approved grant recipients will receive a bank check within 6-8 weeks.

Please contact Lorri Smiley ([email protected]) for additional questions.

Allowable Expenses

  • Daycare expenses at the site of the meeting
  • Extra daycare expenses at home incurred because the primary caregiver was attending the meeting (for example, overtime at a daycare center, cost of a sitter, etc.) A signed statement by caregiver including the total amount paid per day is required.
  • Expenses incurred in bringing a babysitter (or family member acting as caregiver) to the meeting to care for the child.

Not allowable: Meeting attendee’s mileage and travel expenses to and from the MRS meeting, or, tickets to local museums, amusement parks, etc., are not reimbursed.

*Please note: There will be no MRS sponsored childcare services on-site at the 2024 MRS Spring Meeting. MRS does not sanction or recommend childcare providers, and does not assume responsibility or liability for child care services of any sort. It is the responsibility of the parents to thoroughly investigate all childcare providers.
