Artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) has the potential to revolutionize major aspects of how we design new biomaterials and evaluate their performance. Large datasets mined from the literature or collected in high throughput can be interpreted
by AI/ML models to inform structure-function relationships and guide decision making. Complex design and manufacturing processes and experimental analysis can be automated by AI/ML such as image analysis and 3D printing. A wealth of opportunity lies
before the biomaterials community to apply AI/ML if we dedicate ourselves to its development.
This joint MRS/SFB two-day virtual workshop will bring together experts in the field to discuss their recent advances and share their views on the challenges and strategies of using AI/ML in a broad array of biomaterial applications. This workshop will
include tutorials by experts to teach people the basics of AI/ML and prepare viewers to apply these tools to their own biomaterial challenges. We expect that participants of all levels of experience and interest in AI/ML will gain valuable insights
from this workshop.
Some of the topics covered in this workshop will include:
- 3D printing / bioprinting
- Imaging and image analysis by AI/ML
- QSAR modeling
- Drug formulation
