2019 MRS Spring Meeting & Exhibit

Symposium CP08-Additive Manufacturing of Metals

This symposium will broadly highlight Additive Manufacturing (AM) of Alloys and the printing techniques used to generate new and novel metal materials. The symposium will address seeding techniques for enhancing overall strength in 3D printed alloys, along with characterization and analysis of alternative feedstock print materials (i.e. powder-based, wire-based, etc.). Devices and applications which lend themselves to AM metal printing techniques will also be explored. Success in this area could yield significant technological advancements in the automotive, biomedical, dental, military, and aerospace industries.

Topics will include:

  • Nano additives for 3D Printed Alloys—Minimizing Hot Tearing and Corrosion
  • Characterization of Printed Alloys—Microstructure Analysis and Mechanical Behavior
  • Existing and Alternative Print Materials
  • Process Optimization and Control
  • Post Processing
  • Applications and Functional Devices
  • Next Generation AM—4D Printing, Shape Memory Alloys, and Semiconductors
