Tutorial EN06—How to Make Electronic Materials More Sustainable/Last Longer

    Monday, April 22
    8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Summit - Seattle Convention Center, Level 3, Room 348

A strategic goal of social development is an increasingly efficient use of resources. Key for the future is the sustainable use of resources, ultimately requiring a nondestructive resource life cycle - a true circular economy. Although complete recycling is impossible from the entropy point of view, the nearly inexhaustible combination of solar, wind and geothermal energy sources can be the driver for sustainability for the foreseeable future.

Tutorial EN10—Metal Halide Perovskite Research of the Next Decade

    Monday, April 22
    8:00 am – 12:00 pm
Summit - Seattle Convention Center, Level 3, Room 347

This tutorial session will feature the upcoming R&D topics of metal halide perovskite semiconductors including fundamental theories, stability, devices, and processing/manufacturing. It is expected to provide a clear landscape on the metal halide perovskite research of the next decade, and give instructions to scientists and engineers from the broad materials research community who are interested in performing related research. The session will contain five lectures that will be presented in an educational style. It will start with Yan's lecture illustrating the essential materials characteristics of perovskites from the perspective of atomic theories. Then  You and Zhu will present how efficient and stable perovskites can be made and how the performance can be reliably measured. Finally, Bolink and Fan will present lectures illustrating how perovskite solar cells can possibly be commercialized from the perspectives of processing and manufacturing.

Tutorial MT00—Machine Learning in Materials Science—From Basic Concepts to Active Learning

    Monday, April 22
    8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Summit - Seattle Convention Center, Level 3, Room 321

This tutorial will introduce basic techniques for machine learning and AI, all from a material science perspective.

Tutorial EN07—Machine Learning Toward Advanced Thermal Materials

    Monday, April 22
    1:30 pm – 5:00 pm
Summit - Seattle Convention Center, Level 3, Room 344

This tutorial lecture will introduce some state-of-the-art ML/AI approaches for predicting energy carriers' transport behaviors in materials. Both traditional ML methods (such as random forest) and novel graph neural networks will be presented with showcase studies on training, testing and prediction of lattice vibrations (phonons). Particular focus will be our recently developed Elemental Spatial Density Neural Network Force Field (Elemental-SDNNFF) with abundant atomic-level environments as training data. Benefiting from the innovative architecture of the algorithm, sub-trillion atomic data can be integrated to train a single deep neural network for predicting complete phonon properties of >100,000 inorganic crystals spanning 63 elements in the periodic table.

Tutorial QT01—Ultrafast Spectroscopy with Photons and Electrons

    Thursday, April 25
    1:30 pm – 5:00 pm
Summit - Seattle Convention Center, Level 4, Room 420

The tutorial session will focus on two main topics (two tutorial presentations):

    • Tutorial 1: "Multidimensional Spectroscopy in Solid State Systems" covered by Daniele Brida. This tutorial will include ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy, two-dimensional and multidimensional spectroscopy.

    • Tutorial 2: "Ultrafast Electron Microscopy and Diffraction" covered by Claus Ropers. This tutorial will include ultrafast TEM, ultrafast LEED and some first ultrafast LEEM.

Both topics are intimately related to the main focus of the symposium, that is, Ultrafast Light-Matter Interactions in Quantum Materials
